Ash is a staple of virtually every British woodland. This most useful of trees loses nothing of its versatility once made into charcoal. Easy to light, quick to respond to changes in airflow. It copes well with a hot grill, or low and slow setups and is an excellent all-rounder. Distilled in the unique Whittle & Flame process, the subtle light sweet smoky flavour, comes through beautifully and is a joy to cook with.

Beech, with leaves that stay on the branch well into Winter and often surrounded by a carpet of bluebells in the spring, is an iconic species in the British woodland. Rivalling Oak for density Beech charcoal is well suited to a longer slower burn and is an excellent choice for cooking directly on the coals.

Birch charcoal delivers a long burn time of up to 4 hours on an open grill, and is perfect for any type of barbeque. It takes quickly and builds temperature really fast so you will be ready to cook in no time. Working from their yard in Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire they use trees felled as part of a whole-woodland management plan. Their focus is on regenerating biodiversity and vigorous healthy growth ensuring a future for these essential habitats.
