Lakeland charcoal is a family‑run producer of high‑quality British lumpwood charcoal, crafted on their multi‑generational farm in Cumbria.
The charcoal is simply fantastic. It has been expertly made, lights very easily and is at home on an open bed, kettle or Kamado. The lump has been hand sorted, so offers an excellent mix of sizes, with plenty of larger chunks in the bag. It's super clean burning and has a subtle flavour profile, ensuring the true flavours of your food shine through. This superb charcoal is very at home amongst our collection of the best charcoals you can cook with.

Chestnut Charcoal
Vendor:
Caradoc Charcoal
Chestnut, a relatively uncommon single species, is an excellent British charcoal. It has its own personality on the grill, and lights faster than very dense species like oak or birch, but does not burn as quickly as alder or ash. It produces a lively, even heat that's easy to manage to a good all-rounder and offers solid longevity without feeling sluggish to get going. It reacts well to air flow, making it particularly suitable for kamados and kettles. It burns with very little smoke once fully lit, leaving minimal ash so just another great English charcoal for you to enjoy!

English Oak
Vendor:
Norfolk Charcoal
Another new charcoal alert!!!
A wonderfully dense British charcoal that is suited perfectly for low and slow and cooking 'dirty' directly on the coals. Many people are surprised with the subtlety in flavour of oak charcoal expecting big flavours, but bear in mind this is charcoal and not wood - so it delivers a lovely mild flavour and not overpowering. If you want more punch, add our British grown and made oak smoking chunks. This is a wonderful charcoal and every cook will be one to remember!

Alder Chunks
Vendor:
Whittle & Flame
Made by our great friends from Whittle and Flame from their new home in North Devon, smoking chunks are an essential flavour enhancer to your barbecue - but pair with your food carefully.
Alder is traditionally used for smoking salmon as it delivers a mild, sweet and earthy flavour. We recommend it is best paired with the more delicate proteins like fish or chicken or thinner cuts of pork. Not best suited to add smoke to more powerful rubs and marinades given its subtlety, so use Oak or Cherry if you need something with more punch.
