*The purchase of each bag of British charcoal secures our forests, woodlands and the beasts that live within for future generations.  We do this together, one bag at a time.Unnecessary charcoal imports are damaging tropical ecosystems and polluting the planet, not to mention the humanitarian impacts in some territories.  We need to burn British!

  • Great with fish

  • Great with chicken

The Beech for this outstanding Stag charcoal is sourced from local woodlands in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Essex and Cambridgeshire by Matt Edmonds, one of the UK's premier charcoal makers and font of all tree knowledge.

Beech, with leaves that stay on the branch well into Winter and often surrounded by a carpet of bluebells in the spring, is an iconic tree species in the British woodland. Rivalling Oak and Birch for density, Beech charcoal is a great all rounder but well suited to a longer slower burn.

Charcoal from Stag is always of the highest quality and British craftsmanship and is hand sorted so only the best mixed sized lumps are bagged.

Beech charcoal is perfect for your low and slows or if you are cooking for many and need your lumpwood to burn for that much longer.  It is one of our favourite charcoals and you will be delighted with it for sure!

Flavour Profile

A clean consistent burn that adds a lovely subtle smoke to your cooks - if you want more smoke for those stronger flavours add smoking chunks.

Origins & Production

Stag Charcoal works in partnership with Abington Sawmill in Cambridgeshire and local woodland owners to source timber suitable for making into the finest British charcoal. The name "Stag" was chosen because traditionally the stag has been the “King” of the forest and our guiding values and ethos are that British Charcoal is the "King" of all charcoals and the best you can cook with! One of the very best global charcoal makers and we are so lucky to have them on our isle.
