Charcoal isn’t THAT important. Is it?

The reality (yes we’re biassed) is that British charcoal is some of the best in the world. It performs as needed and delivers a species specific, subtle flavour profile that can be enhanced with smoking chips and chunks.  All House of Charcoal products are not only made in Britain, but they are made from sustainable British woodlands, grown within a stone’s throw of the production yard.

The term ‘artisan’ is thrown around too freely these days, but our British charcoal manufacturers truly are producing an artisanal product. They have honed their manufacturing techniques to the extent where they can be considered the most advanced in the world and have developed techniques, hardware and software that produce the best quality products, consistently.  Significant research and development captures the run offs of production for a myriad of uses and ways to recirculate heat and gases to generate electricity and utilise excess heat to dry wood in kilns. Wood oils, Wood vinegar and biochar are all run-off products that deserve a write up too! (stay tuned)

Buying a bag of British charcoal supports not only a UK craft industry, but protects our woodlands for generations to come through our producers ethics, production and sustainability commitments.
